“We worked with Christa Smith at Brixton Real Estate for a few months in a crazy market but were rest assured that we would find a home. Little did we know that we would find our dream home. If it wasn’t for Christa’s attention to detail and great negotiation skills with the seller’s broker we would have never gotten the home we are living in now. We are forever in debt to Brixton and Christa. If you are trying to buy a house we would highly recommend Christa and Brixton Real Estate!!!”

Feel like you’re looking for Bigfoot?

We can help you find the home you always wanted, but never thought existed.

Dear Brixton Friends,

We finally have some room to breathe after an extremely busy summer!  Are you enjoying the transition to fall?  We welcome being back home with the kids in school and a routine in our daily life.  Every fall we take stock in our business and life, reviewing where we’ve come in the year and where we want to go next.  Our kids have grown and have so many new adventures, we’re just trying to catch up!  The business has also expanded to new markets, new opportunities and an amazing bunch of new clients.  We are so grateful for the work we get to do everyday and the wonderful people we serve and who help us.  Awe, the spice of life!

Speaking of spice, our girls are full of spunk and authority these days.  Most evenings we have dinner together and ask about their days.  They are making new friends, learning how to socialize (i.e. not be the center of attention, always), and are experiencing so many fun new things thanks to the great opportunities around them.  Dad started coaching their soccer team this fall and Team Rainbow is off to a great start!  They also just turned 5 and were thoroughly spoiled with fun adventures in horseback riding and ice-skating as birthday presents from the grandparents.  These girls have done more in the first 5 years of life than we think we did in the first 15! But they soak it up and love every minute.

2015 has been a record year for Brixton, and we are preparing for an even bigger 2016 with over 30 listings already on the books!  Along with our clients, the Morrison family may be on the move again…more to come soon!

As always, we are deeply grateful for your support and referrals.  We are also expanding our team and our services, so if you want to learn more about what we are offering, contact us anytime at 720-606-5556.

Reflecting on 2015 has helped us also look forward to an amazing 2016.  We hope you and your family are enjoying the changing seasons and know that we are always available if you need help thinking about your opportunities in the real estate market.

Happy Fall!  Go Broncos!

With Gratitude,
Jenn and Brian Morrison

Brian’s Perspective-

Why Golden?

There are many reasons why properties are expensive and hard to find in Golden. There is of course the great family friendly environment that caters to Colorado’s active outdoors lifestyle, but there is also a 1% per year growth cap. This year’s building allotment count is 75 for the entire city. When you take one of the most desirable communities to live in and then limit growth, you are left with a highly desirable community that can be very difficult to become a part of.

I grew up in a small town outside of Columbus, Ohio and I really enjoyed the small town life as a kid. We had cool local restaurants and shops to visit and a strong sense of community. Fast forward to today, and we have built a reputation in many neighborhoods of Denver. I think there are great boroughs in Denver that can fill a small town need like the Highlands or Washington Park. There are many great areas in Denver to call home. What I like about Golden is the close proximity to the mountains, which means you are close to all outdoor activities, and the commute to Denver is 15 minutes or can be done by light rail.

We will build 22% of new allotments this year in Golden, and I hope to continue to be a contributing part of the community for many years to come!

Design Love

As Brian and Jenn continue to design the interior of homes, they are building a book of design aspects they love.  Here are a few ideas from their book:

  • Barn doors bring a unique aspect and historical feel to a home that is very simple for pantries or offices.
  • Blending materials like reclaimed wood, subway tile and tasteful carpet tiles brings warmth and texture.
  • Geometric meet asymmetric!  Bold shapes with organic features adds character and presence.
  • Retro refrigerators are on a come back.  Tying these in with butcher block and subway tile makes for a fun and happy kitchen.

The Neighbor Connection

In the past month the nation celebrated Good Neighbor Day, established by Jimmy Carter with the emphasis that “…the noblest human concern is concern for others. Understanding, love and respect build cohesive families and communities. The same bonds cement our Nation and the nations of the world. For most of us, this sense of community is nurtured and expressed in our neighborhoods where we give each other an opportunity to share and feel part of a larger family.”

In our modern day busyness, it is common for people to have little interaction with their neighbors and often not even know their names.  All judgement aside, it is an interesting observation of our culture.  The center of the community is not always where people look for strength and support, so are we missing something?  Could a few small actions easily make huge change in our communities?

Fall is the season of bounty where we reap the rewards of summer and enjoy a well deserved rest before we dive into the busy holiday season.  What if you take this time to expand your community presence, meet a neighbor, help with a community project, or drop a baked goods gift to someone in need of a smile.  Being a good neighbor is much simpler than you think.  Good fences and small gestures can go a long way toward being a good neighbor.  You will likely find the gesture returned to you in the future makes all the difference, and helps your community build a much stronger bond.
